DAY 1  AIRPORT – DAMBULLA

 

AYUBOWAN (AHLAN WE SAHLAN) WELCOME TO SRI LANKA – may you be blessed with long life!

 

With this beautiful traditional greeting our SEYLAN chauffeur will assist you at the Airport and driven to your hotel at Dambulla  while sightseeing around the tour.

 

Morning we visit Sigiriya. An impressive rock fortress, a royal citadel of a king for 18 years. A part from the great rock, the surroundings, just gets you… so green, so serene, so peaceful amidst hundreds of visitors every day. We climb to the summit, an area of nearly one hc., to the site of the palace which commands a magnificent view of the royal water gardens, on par with the best of the ancient world. On the way up we encounter the famous 5th century Sigiriya frescoes, heavenly maidens painted on a rock pocket.

Later we enjoy a typical village experience. Ox cart rides and canoeing across a lake to a typical chena cultivation. We prepare a meal, using traditional appliances and share it with the inmates of a typical Sri Lankan village home.

Afternoon – Jeep safari to Minneriya to witness the elephant gathering. An owe inspiring sight!

 

Stay overnight in  Habarana Village Habarana

DAY 2   dambulla – kandy

Early morning a visit to the Dalada Maligawa (temple of the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha). We observe the traditional Kandyan art and architecture and witness the morning ‘Pooja’ (offering) accompanied by Kandyan drumming. The sanctity enfolds us… After a short tour of beautiful Kandy we visit the Kandy market to pick up some fresh vegetables and dry spices as today we will learn to make a typical Sinhala curry or we may opt for a visit to a crafts village to see craftsmen at work producing exquisite Kandyan artifacts. Evening we enjoy a traditional cultural show with resounding drum beats.

DAY 3    kandy – nuwara eliya

Morning we leave for the Tea Country, an interesting drive passing the Victoria Dam and typical village scenery ascending to the cooler climes and a landscape of emerald green tea gardens. Check in at hotel.

We take a short sightseeing tour. The nostalgia of the British empire builders is reflected in Nuwara Eliya – buildings, gardens, landscaping, names etc., First introduced by them, terraced Tea gardens with mist hovering above and colorfully clad tea pluckers on the slopes, plucking two leaves and a bud is a delightful sight. We explore Nuwara Eliya, the lake, the 18-hole over 100 years old Golf Course, purchase the world famous Ceylon Tea and excited to visit Horton Plains National Park next morning.

DAY 4    nuwara eliya – yala

An exciting day dawns. We leave for Yala National Park the premier Wild Life Sanctuary in the island. Check in to the hotel. Evening Safari in Yala. We enter a whole new world where nature has largely stayed still. Yala boasts of a growing leopard population, herds of elephants and spotted deer, bear among others.

DAY 5 – yala – HIKKADUWA

Morning we leave for Hikkaduwa, lovely journey hugging the southern coastline. On the way we observe the striking silhouettes of stilt fishermen against the blue green sea at Weligama. Next we pass Unawatuna beach, placid deep blue sea and a fine reef for snorkelling, very touristic and very inviting amidst lush green vegetation. We also have a short tour of the 17th century Dutch fortified walled city of Galle, very palpable atmosphere. Check into the hotel. A relaxing evening watching evening shadows descending on the beach.

Stay : Hikka Tanz Hikkaduwa

DAY 6 – HIKKADUWA | COLOMBO

Morning we are ready to proceed to Colombo. Hikkaduwa is famous for its coral reef. A short boat ride to view corals. On the way, a visit to a turtle hatchery at Kosgoda where turtle eggs are collected, hatched, baby turtles nurtured, numbered and released to the sea.

Visit Balapitiya for Boat safari. Madu Ganga is one of nature’s fascinating creations. A lagoon declared a Ramsar Site with hundreds of islands providing an idyllic setting to observe the slow paced life style of the river folk, the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.

Leave to Colombo. Check into the hotel. Indulge in some last minute shopping and have a short sightseeing tour of the metropolis.

day 7   Colombo – airport departure

 

After a sumptuous Breakfast check out and proceed towards the Airport and bid Adieus with the good intention to meet you again.
